Diagnostic Evaluation
Oral cancer presents with persistent nonhealing ulcers, bleeding, and progressive chewing difficulty. Imaging evaluates local invasion into mandible or maxilla and checks for nodal/distant metastasis. CT is typically preferred for mapping bony involvement and staging. Radiographs can show mandibular destruction but are less detailed. MRI helps characterize soft-tissue extent and muscle invasion. Ultrasound is adjunctive for lymph nodes. Nuclear imaging may be used for selected metastasis workups.
