Diagnostic Evaluation
Maxillofacial trauma frequently presents with pain, swelling, hemorrhage, and difficulty eating due to fracture or soft-tissue disruption. CT is most informative for complex fractures and dental-alveolar involvement, and it helps plan stabilization and extractions. Plain radiographs can screen for major fractures but may miss subtle components. Ultrasound is limited to soft-tissue evaluation. MRI is reserved for suspected nerve or soft-tissue injuries.
