Diagnostic Evaluation
Sinus infection produces chronic or acute nasal discharge and obstruction, often complicated by dental or airway disease. Imaging determines sinus involvement and helps identify foreign material, tumor, or dental causes. CT is best for defining sinus opacity, bony changes, and airflow obstruction. Radiographs can suggest sinus disease but are less precise. MRI can help when soft-tissue extension or fungal/neoplastic processes are suspected. Ultrasound and nuclear imaging are rarely first-line.
